Resources and help

Everything you need to check a contractor before you sign or pay: how verification works, what each result means, and answers about reports, sources, pricing, and team accounts.

Reports

What does VetACrew verify?

VetACrew cross-checks the contractor’s identity, business, license, work classification, bond, available insurance information, permits, and risk history. The exact checks depend on the contractor and jurisdiction, and every report shows which checks were completed.

Can VetACrew tell me whether to hire someone?

VetACrew does not guarantee future workmanship or make the hiring decision for you. It verifies critical details, flags discrepancies, and shows what still needs confirmation so you can make a better-informed decision.

What if a detail cannot be verified?

The report marks it with its result state, such as unavailable when a search did not finish or unsupported when no public source covers it, explains why, and suggests the next step, such as requesting a document or confirming directly with an insurer, surety, licensing authority, or permit office.

How current is the verification?

Every status shows the date it was checked. Licenses, bonds, and coverage can change, so time-sensitive items should be rechecked immediately before signing, payment, or the start of work.

Can a contractor correct information?

Contractors and customers can submit a correction. VetACrew reviews the evidence, preserves the basis for material changes, and shows the latest verification date.

Does a verification guarantee good work?

No. Verification can confirm identities, credentials, reported protection, and available history; it cannot predict future workmanship. Homeowners should also compare bids, check references, use a detailed written contract, confirm permits, and verify insurance directly where needed.

What is a Contractor Verification Report?

VetACrew’s paid report on one contractor. Every line names its source and the date it was checked, and the report opens again free for 3 months. It never scores, grades, or recommends a contractor.

How long does a report take?

Usually a few minutes. You can close the page while it runs, and it shows up in My reports when it’s ready.

What if a records office is down while my report runs?

The report still finishes. The section that office covers is marked “unavailable”, with the date we tried and how to check it yourself.

Does the report change if the contractor’s record changes later?

No. A report is a saved copy of what the records said on the date it ran. To see today’s record, run a new report.

Sources

Does VetACrew confirm that the contractor is insured?

VetACrew distinguishes between insurance information found in a filing and coverage independently confirmed with an insurer or agent. The report will state which level of verification was completed. A workers’ compensation filing is not the same as verification of general liability coverage.

What is the difference between a bond and insurance?

A contractor bond and liability insurance protect against different risks. VetACrew reports them separately and does not treat one as proof of the other. Bond requirements are set by each state’s licensing rules, and liability coverage is best confirmed with the insurance carrier or agency.

Why not just use a free license lookup?

A license lookup is useful for checking one license source. VetACrew goes further by matching the contractor’s identity and business, checking whether the license appears relevant to the job, reviewing bond and coverage information, and connecting track-record information into one verification result.

Where does VetACrew get its information?

From public records kept by state contractor license boards, city and county building departments, and the Secretary of State. We do not use reviews, ratings, or anything the contractor tells us.

Which states do you cover?

California today. Every other state is listed as coming soon; pick yours to join its waitlist, and we’ll tell you when its records are available.

Pricing

How much does a report cost?

One Contractor Verification Report is $39. Buy three reports for $99 or five for $149, plus tax where it applies. Searching is free, and opening a report you already have is free.

When is a report used?

When you run a verification, one of your reports is set aside. It’s used when the report finishes. If the report can’t finish, you get the report back automatically.

Do unused reports expire?

Reports you buy and haven’t run last 12 months. Each report can be opened again for free for 3 months.

Teams

Can my property management or warranty team use this?

Organization accounts, with one shared balance of reports and one report library for your team, are coming. Sign up as an organization to join the waitlist.

Can I buy reports in volume?

Yes. Organizations that run many reports a month can ask us about volume pricing.
